Colder Than Alaska

Even though I've been there and know it isn't always that way, in my mind's eye Alaska is a cold place - mile after seemingly endless mile of snow covered landscape. Think Ice Road Truckers.

My step-son is heading to Edmonton Canada to serve a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  It's a place even colder than Alaska, with recorded low temps in the -50F range....brrrr.

Today was shopping day. Just one more step in preparing for two years of personal sacrifice, hard work, spiritual and emotional growth, and devotion to serving God. He's a fine young man with a kind heart, a great sense of humor and a maturity that belies his youthful 19 years. He's well prepared in just about every way he could be... and now he's got the clothes for it too! A fun day for all of us.

Oh, and did I mention how handsome he looks? If you were looking out the window and saw him coming toward your house, I'm betting you'd open the door to let him share his message.

What a cool mission. And yes, a cold one, too.
