Making Easter More Meaningful

Growing up in a Jewish family, Easter never really was a tradition for me. Also, as a result of growing up in a Jewish family, I think that if families celebrate religious holidays, then children should be taught their meaning.

So, this year, instead of overdosing your children with sugar, how about an Easter egg hunt in which they learn something about Jesus Christ, the central figure in the Easter story? (No, it's not the Easter bunny...I promise you).

OK, so here's my idea. Take however many plastic eggs you plan to hide and inside each one, write one of the approximately 200 names by which Christ is known. Hide the eggs. Let the little ones gather them up. And then....explain to them the significance of Easter and what those names mean. And then....if you must have candy, have at it!
