Let Them Eat Cake

Cream together butter and sugar. I try to remove the thought from my mind and the flavor from my mouth.

Girding up my taste buds for what’s about to come, I stand before the mighty industrial-strength blender filled to the top with snap peas, cucumber, celery, lettuce and a handful of sweet juicy oh-so-red strawberries and two heaping tablespoons of magical fairy dust complete with fiber, amino acids, protein and vitamins. I make a vain attempt to convince myself it’ll taste every bit as good as the buttercream-frosted cake I’ve sworn off. Day 3 of the 21-day cleanse begins.

Mrs. Jenny is back from her Texas road trip and contemplating a diet. Nice. So this is what she dished out for us this morning for Saturday Centus. The prompt is in red. Be sure to stop on over at Mrs. Jenny's and see what sweet things the other Centusians are serving up.

Hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day and eat cake, if that's what makes you happy! As for me and my body, I'll be hanging out with my blender.

Breakfast

A high protein diet helps with the ADD...well, for me it does. I know from experience. Cereal, toast, waffles...those are day-killers for me.

Sometimes the ADD doesn't wait for me to eat...

...and then breakfast becomes the subject of my ADD... :)

Ahhh...that's better. I can go start the productive part of my day now.

Anyone Hungry?

Oh yea...it's time for another Alphabe-Thursday over at Mrs. Jenny's. She's been a little under the weather so I thought I'd cook up something special just for her this week...some good hot soup. Why? Cuz I'm just that way...AND cuz we're onto the letter G this week...

G is for GASTRONOMY!

Eat GOOD food and GET well!

And, GET yourself over to Mrs. Jenny's to see what GOOD things the other Alphabetians GOT GOING on!

Joyful Noise

It’s Christmas eve. The family’s here. The little people have all but taken over our lives. We’ve played in the snow.

We’ve baked cookies for Santa, hoping the sweet smell wafting into the sky would draw him to our house before he gets too tired.

We’ve sprinkled reindeer food to help Rudolf and company find our home, just in case. We’ve cooked, eaten too much, and washed tons of dishes multiple times over and we’ll do it just as many times again before the hustle and bustle dies down.

It’s been the best possible kind of busy at our house this week, the most charming form of chaotic. And even with all that has been going on, I heard an angel voice through the chaos and the noise*...or so I thought. But then I realized that the joyful noise and delightful chaos actually WAS the angels, themselves!

Merry Christmas to all. I hope you are enjoying this special time when we celebrate the Savior’s birth surrounded by the love of friends and family.

*It's Christmas Eve, and it's also Saturday Centus time...the prompt given by Mrs. Jenny this week is in red above...see what other Centusians did with this angelic idea!

Mmm-mmm-mmm-Monday

Guess what I did today?!

First: Oatmeal cookies with cream cheese filling. (Recipe borrowed from Oatmeal Cookie Blog). They were chewie gooey good. I'd definitely do these again!

Next: Double Chocolate Stuffed Peppermint Cookies (I saw these being made on KSL's Studio 5 morning program and thought they looked amazing. Click HERE for the recipe.)  They were good, but not as good as they looked. They were a little more cake-like than I wanted. I'd have preferred them to be more chewy like a brownie or a good chocolate chip cookie.  If I made them again, I'd probably use less cinnamon than the recipe called for - it was a little overpowering. I also think I'd make a chocolate chip type cookie dough, but instead of using chocolate chips, I'd use cocoa powder to make the cookies chocolate. I'll report back if I try them again.

I had more dough than Peppermint candies, so I filled the extra ones with caramels...the verdict on those is the same as the peppermint ones.

Finally, good old fashioned chocolate chip meringues. They are so easy and so yummy. Make 'em before you go to bed. Leave 'em in the oven while you sleep.  I borrowed the recipe from the Food Network. I used pecans instead of walnuts. I'd do them exactly the same next time!

The cookie elves and I hit the road this evening and left plates on a few doorsteps. It was a fun thing for our family to do together.
