Winter Comes Early

Since W is not used in the Spanish alphabet (except in words that are used in their English form, such as "web"), I'm taking a breather from my usual  photo tour of Chilean Patagonia for Alphabe-Thursday. Instead you get a quick glimpse of what we got yesterday...the first taste of WINTER!

Just Like That...

This past week was in the 70s and sunny...

...the clouds moved in...

...and then, this morning...

Like I Said...

 I love this place. Yesterday it was 90 something. Today...

...wind and rain...

... and then temps in the 30s and snow. Yes, maybe only a few minutes of snow, but snow, nonetheless.

It's Memorial Day Weekend...

...and that means it's OK (according to whom, I do not know) to wear white. Apparently Mother Nature got that memo too and she decided to dress for the occasion...

See that white stuff on the ground? It's commonly known as snow.

This would be called hail...

Along with a little lightning and thunder. 

And if there's snow on the ground, where would any smart dog want to be but on the couch...sleeping?

Well...sleeping with one eye open, because that's what you must do if there's rolling thunder...

...And especially if you're Albert, who is A.L.W.A.Y.S. at the ready for anything that might be going on.

Moving On

Today we finished our stay in Aysen, the XIth region of Chile, and we're off to Punta Arenas...the southernmost city in Chile. Punta Arenas is the jumping off point for visiting Antarctica. 

I guess it was appropriate, therefore, that it would be snowing on the way to the airport.

The Constants in My Life

Weather is a constant. Yes, I know. That sounds crazy. After all, who is always getting the blame for being wrong? Yes, the weatherman.

But weather is a constant. One thing you know for sure. Weather. Every day you will get some. Whether you like it or not. Whether the weather is what you expect or not.

Yesterday we had spring, almost summer-like weather. We sat outside and sunned ourselves...in shorts.

This morning. It's snowing again.

Yes. Weather. One of life's most inconsistent constants.

Yesterday we had blue skies and temps approaching 60F. Today, we had this...

 ...which turned into this...

All Over the Map

Snowing this morning. By this time last year, we were "winding down" on our ski season (meaning we'd had so much great snow we were beginning to get sort of ho-hum about the whole thing). Today, finally, for the first time this season, we threw our skis in the truck and went. Considering that we live 15-20 minutes from an Olympic venue, that's kind of sad. But we went and it was fun.

On the way back we took a little detour to a county park that I'd never seen...from the looks of things, you would never have known that it was snowing that morning. 

And then, later in the afternoon, another storm...full on blizzard-like. Crazy weather, but we love this place.
