Terry-fying Halloween

Tomorrow is the big day. Halloween. I've never liked dressing up for Halloween, even when I was a wee whippersnapper. But in the past few years we've had more fun with our sweet animals...and they are so obliging...

I'm almost certain that someone coming across this will find it offensive. Please don't- it's really not intended to be. Just take a deep breath and realize that with a last name like Terry and with two terrier boys, sometimes we just can't help ourselves. So hopefully you'll laugh along with us. We all could use a little more levity in our lives.

The Scottish terrierists and the time bomb with the Hare trigger hope you have a simply Terry-fying Halloween!

Oh, Mom, really? Do we have to do this AGAIN?! I'm so embarrassed.

Another ABCtoZ Thing

A body could do everything for good health in just keeping lively motion near one's psyche. Quietly resisting sharing truly ugly viciousness will extend youthful zest!

Hahaha. I did it. Mrs. Jenny's been on an alphabet kick the past few weeks. But hey, I'll play. Used each of the 26 letters of the alphabet in 126 words or under...way under, in my case.

And the images have what to do with it? Nothing, but then so what?!

Now be nice and go over to Mrs. Jenny's and see what everyone else is doing for their Saturday Centus too.

Why Oh Why Oh Why...

Taking a quick time out from my travels to join Mrs. Jenny for Saturday Centus...because how could I possibly miss it? The prompt for today is below in red...plus she oh so generously gave us 100 words with which to work. Gotta love her.

I love my husband.

"Why oh why oh why...?," you might ask. Let me tell you. He says things like "why oh why oh why are you so beautiful, intelligent and wonderful?" (even when I look like this with the crazy hair and all).

And I say, "just because."

Oh so humble...and oh so silly.

OK, time to get back to my travels.

Be sure to get on over to Mrs. Jenny's and see what the other Centusians have to say. "Why oh why oh why", you say? Because I said so, that's why!

Easter Silliness

Our dear Mrs. Jenny threw us a rotten egg for Saturday Centus this week...a photo of a chihuahua in its Easter best...and instructions to write 25 words of greeting card schtick...

So, if I were to use her photo for the front of an Easter card, it would probably say something like:

It’s the Ch-Easter-huahua
All decked out in frilly pink,
Wishing that with all the eggs you find,
None give off a sulfur stink.
Hope you have a sweet smelling Easter.

If you know me, though, you know I have to (have to have to have to) use my own pics...that's just one of the rules around here...(the dogs and rabbit hate this rule, as you'll see..."are we done yet, MOM?!!")

So. Here you go.

Why did the Easter bunny cross the road?

To get away from the terrier twins, of course!

From Thump, Jake and Albert (and us humans, too)
We wish you a Happy Easter and a basket full of sweet arrrrooooos.

Make sure to hop on over to Mrs. Jenny's and see what the other Centusians have in their Easter bonnets.

I Just Couldn't Resist

Who do they think they are? They can’t just leave me in here. I hear their voices. I don’t know what they’re saying but I can hear them laughing. They better not be laughing at me. This is not funny. I don’t want to be in here. Not when they’re out there, having a good time.

I’ll show them. Just watch me. Hmm, let me think.

I can do this. OK, here we go.

One-two-three…

Ohh, I almost made it. Just a tiny bit higher.

OK, one more time.

Up, over and outta here.

I’m living the dream, man! See ya!

(video courtesy of my hubs)

It's Saturday Centus time. I already posted this week, and normally I wouldn't post twice. But sweet Albert, our little escape artist, gave me this little gift I just had to use. Seriously, I'm living the Saturday Centus dream. It was worth finding another 100 words. Have a great day and be sure to escape on over to Mrs. Jenny's and see what the other Centusians have dreamed up by clicking here.

Friday Randomness

I will take you from the beautiful...

...to the absurd...if you let me! A girl's gotta have a little fun after all, no?
And a dog's gotta watch a little TV (Animal Planet, most likely...)...

...when he's not up to his eyeballs in snow.

Harvesting Snowballs

It snowed last night...and this morning...and continues now. The snow piled up against the fence in the dog run, allowing the little rascals to escape. They might have short legs, but they know how to put them in low gear and power up and over the top. Scotties on the loose ... into the woods they go.

Albert, who can't stand being too far from food, hurried home as soon as he heard us calling him. Jake, on the other hand, was off on a grand adventure and wasn't about to cut it short for some lousy little dog treat.

So, we put on our snow shoes and headed into the woods...up, down, around that tall tree, and so on following the fresh track they had left behind. When we finally caught up to him, he came running and greeted us with wagging tail...'oh, look at me, I'm having so much fun, yessirree!' .... and his own collection of snowballs.

Knitting Karma Konfessions

Alphabe-Thursday, here, again. And this week, over at Mrs. Jenny's it's kudos to the letter K, as in K is for Knit-wits.

My mother mastered the art of knitting in the days of her youth, living on a kibbutz. She tried to teach me when I was just past kindergarten, but I wasn’t too keen on the idea since I was kind of a klutz and never did quite get the kinetics of needle in each hand with yarn strung over knuckle.  I really didn’t even have a kernel of talent in that arena and most of my attempts just looked like a bunch of uneven knots. To say that this kid had a few kinks to work out would have been more than kind.

My anything-but-kosher mom was a little kooky, but always kindly, and tried to teach me in spite of my challenges. She even resorted to playing karaoke while I knitted, hoping that somehow I’d get the rhythm of it all and I’d be able to make a kaftan fit for a king, but the best I could come up with was a little ditty that looked like a cross between a kettle and a kangaroo pouch. It wouldn't even pass for a kite.

She seemed to get a kick out of watching me, even though I would glare at her with knife-like intensity as if to kill. She knew enough to leave me alone so it never turned into a full knockdown dragout. Instead, she’d just give me a little kiss on the cheek and say “it’s alright, Kumquat! Maybe you can take up the Kazoo!”

Wow, I'm about to keel over. But, if that wasn't enough for you, then the key is to check out what the other Alphabetarian kooks are cooking up over in Mrs. Jenny's kitchen by clicking HERE.

On Genealogy

It's Saturday Centus time again. If you're new to this, each week dear Mrs. Jenny Matlock gives us a little prompt to incorporate into a tasty (or not so) piece of writing (I begrudgingly do the writing but like to use the prompt for photo ideas, too). She thought she was being nice to us with the prompt (in red below) this week. Hmmm, not so sure about that... after all, what would you do with it? (Oh, 100 words, any style...have at it!)

SH: Whatcha doin', Mom?

Me: trying to do a little genealogy.

SH: Oh. What’s so hard about that?

Me: I know when and where most of the family was born. But trying to figure out the rest of the details is a little harder.

SH: We know where all the bodies are buried, right? It should be pretty straightforward. You know, go to the cemetery, look at the headstones, all that jazz.

Me (laughing): Oh yea. We know where they are alright. On the shelf in Peter’s closet, that’s where. Mom and Dad since 1998 and 2009, and Oma’s still at the cemetery waiting since 1957 for someone to pick her up.

A partially true story. Actually, it's all true except for the conversation with my daughter...funny family I have. Mom and Dad really are still in the closet at my bro's house and Grandma, still waiting for someone to come claim her ashes. Sad, but true. I guess we place more value on the soul than the shell.

A Carnivore's Dream...

That Mrs. Jenny...sometimes I think she's full of baloney and sometimes I think she's got a mean streak in her. It's Saturday Centus time and what does she give us for our prompt!? A carnivore's delight for a Christmas tree ... yup, complete with meat ornaments ...a little Lady Gaga-ish, if you ask me. Check it out by clicking here, if you don't believe me...

Personally, I prefer the more minimalist approach...something sweet like these little guys growing outside our home...

But back to Mrs. Jenny's tree...here's my take on this decorating disaster doozie...

A Christmas tree all decked in meat,
Beckons me in; it’s ready to eat.
No colorful glass balls or glitter or tinsel,
Just pepperoni and sausage and oodles of schnitzel.

A garland of lettuce to make it look healthy,
With this much meat I’m feeling quite wealthy.
No need for gifts under the tree,
This one’s edible and for you, it’s FREE!

Oh my, what do I hear on my roof?
I swear it sounds like a thundering hoof.
Oh yay, I’m so thrilled to be awake,
Cuz that meaty dream made my poor heart quake!!

Have a Very Merry (vegan) Christmas…ho ho ho ...
if you want to see what the other Centusians had to say about this tasty tree, click here...
and keep your eyes open for nature's own dazzling display...

Be sure to check out yesterday's post...glistening fog and trees flocked white, like Casper the ghost!

Flummoxed by F?

'Fraid NOT! Oh yea. Another Alphabe-Thursday, and this week it's the fascinating F. I know you probably think I get a little fixated on this alphabet thing, but fact is, I refuse to get into a funk.
