All Creatures Great and Small

On a walk before church this morning, we had to stop so Jake could say "hello" to the neighbor's horses. He loves to greet them and lick their muzzles.

Although they've learned to stay with us on walks for the most part, he and Albert had to be on leash today.
That's because we found this visitor sunning himself on the rocks yesterday...

Did I mention that he was about 3.5 - 4 feet long?

I have to admit that he was a beautiful animal, but I also have a good healthy respect for him (or her) and know to keep my distance. They have the ability to launch themselves through the air for some distance and when they decide to move, they're swift.

One of the things I love about the hubs is that he loves all animals and refuses to kill them unless he is being threatened by one. So he and the son lured this one into a trash can, secured the lid and loaded him into the car to be relocated somewhere he could go on about his business without bothering us or anyone else.

My dear Anita,
Great pictures as always. More importantly, all life is precious in one way or the other. Of course, it depends on what kind of life (smile). Thanks for sharing my dear friend.

I guess I can say that I am glad you 'rescued' the snake. I rescued a dinner-plate-sized turtle the other day.

'He' (because of his size) was on a road with curbs all over. How would he finish getting across? I carried him over to the lake.

Oh, I'm glad I didn't find that snake near MY house. We have found a few little garter snakes, and the kids were fascinated.

Your hubby is braver than I. Of course, I'd be too afraid to kill it, either.

So I guess I would rather catch it than kill it, but neither seems too appealing...

Wow..I have a healthy fear of snake, or anything that crawl.

I'm glad your husband and son took care of it and re-homing it!

OMG I didn't know they would lunge at you!! I don't like snakes.

I guess I am a City girl. I love the country but I don't think I can handle the snakes.

I'm so glad you were able to relocate it before Jake and/or Albert had a misadventure!

Oh!!! I know that they have a purpose, but I just can't seem to like them. Thankfully 'the boys' were spared meeting him up close and personal!
