Night Vision

It can be nearly  pitch black outside, and yet the amazing computer that powers our eyes knows how to adjust to make things visible. As I was preparing to climb into bed, I looked out the window across the valley to the north. Even in the darkness, I could see a dense fog hanging over the valley floor. A few house lights and an occasional car created a soft glow. Leaving the camera shutter open for 4+ minutes allowed me to capture what I saw... or at least, kind of. I guess, as is often the case, a picture doesn't quite do it justice. As my young friend, Katie, would say - you had to be there.

Search, Ponder and Pray

It's Sunday morning. Snowing outside again. I know I said I was tired of it, but really I don't mind. It's very peaceful.

I'm happy to say that my tax preparation is done and behind me. Time to move onto other things.

Everything depended upon this single card.*

One thing about my move that's been difficult over this past year is frequently not knowing where my things are. It was frustrating when my life in a rented condo stretched from what we thought would be 90 days to almost a year. But even now that we are happily (ecstatically) in our new home, there are still things that I am hoping will resurface from the depths of some forgotten box...simple things, like my cutting boards and pot holders.

Of all the things that went missing, though, (and in the grand scheme of things there really weren't that many) one that caused me a lot of stress was my extra memory cards for my camera. I usually have 6 of them and I always know where they are. But one day I discovered that I only had one. I knew that they would eventually turn up, but in the mean time my shooting was constrained to a mere 4GB, which for me meant no more than 197 images at a time. That might not seem like a big deal, but that can be like a writer with a single pen and one sheet of paper on which to create a chapter for a novel.  Not to mention that I worried, 'what if that solitary card went bad or if I lost it?' *Everything depended upon this single card. Thankfully, though, my stash of extra cards did show up a few weeks ago as I was unpacking boxes.

As forecast, it's a cold gray day. My version of *Saturday Centus is done (see what my friend, Sue, did). The dogs have been out to play and have been retrieved. (Everything we've read about Scottish Terriers suggests that they should NEVER, NO NEVER, be let out without a leash because their instinct to chase and desire to wander is just too strong. Nonetheless, we like to think our dogs are different. Haha. They're not!!) And so now, I have the house to myself and no more excuses to procrastinate. Time to face the inevitable and get my tax info organized. Happy Saturday to the rest of you. I'll be in my office.

Procrastination

Today was the day I was going to focus and hunker down to work on getting all my tax info put together. I got up early and was ready to do just that. But then I looked out the window and realized that the last storm was truly over and the sun was going to shine. And that's when my resolve started to fail and procrastination, that old evil bugger, started to creep in (actually just burst through the door that had been left open to let the dogs play out on the deck!). Mr. P got a full-on embossed invitation when Robb suggested that we go skiing since there would be fresh snow and sunny skies... "oh, honey, we'll just go for a few runs and then you can come home and work on your taxes, OK?!" "Come on in, Mr. Procrastination! Stay awhile, why don't you?"

The sun shone brightly. The dogs played on the deck, racing and chasing each other back and forth. When they were all tuckered out, we brought them in, donned our ski apparel and hit the door.

I must say, it was a glorious day. And the taxes, well, they'll just have to wait until tomorrow (which, by the way, is supposed to be snowing and cold).

Oh, and the dogs had a lovely day playing outside. As you can see, little Albert pretty much wore himself out. And Jake is always happy for a nap anywhere near Robb's feet.

Between Storms

As promised, another snow storm arrived. We awoke to a fluffy new white blanket covering trees, ground, and everything else.

The sun hinted that it might break through for about an hour.

Our rabbit, Thump, jumped for joy at the thought that spring might actually be coming soon.

But it was not to be...the sky just let loose with more white stuff. The trees are feeling burdened, as are the rest of us.

Even my shoes are starting to feel restless. I'm signed up to run a half marathon in May and need to start doing some training runs... hurry sunshine! We miss you.

Time for Winter to End?

Is this a sign? Well, yes, of course, but not that kind of sign.

Even Old Glory is tired of being snowed on.

Slacker

OK, call me a slacker. In fact, call me anything you like. But truth is, when you live in a place that seems to have eternal winter and you get a couple of blue sky, clear as a bell, sunshine on your face kind of days, you have to get out and take advantage of them. And yes, I suppose one could say that taking advantage of them means getting out with the camera and shooting. True, but it also means skiing. Notably absent in my photos are people...that's because we practically had the mountain to ourselves. I own the mountain!!! Haha, or so it would seem.

I admit it. I've been a slacker the past couple days when it comes to blogging. There's another snow storm on its way, so don't you worry. I'll be back to shooting again soon. But in the meantime, I'm going skiing!

(I may be a goofball. But one thing about me...I'm not vain...or I'd never post this photo!)
