Ahhh, Saturday Centus* time again...
On the Big Island of Hawaii, there is a place called Pu'uhonua o Honaunau. Here are found a number of sacred wood carvings, with faces that are decidedly frightening. But I say, "Hush little baby, don't you cry." There's nothing to fear. Their intent was to ward off intruders to this place of refuge where non-combatant warriors and others seeking refuge or penitence could find safety.
...and a little further south on Kona's coast - Whittington Beach, twice ravaged by tsunamis and Punaluu, black sand beach. Ah yes, we've been in Hawaii...perhaps you were wondering from my recent postings. Aloha.
